Hello dear parents. Today in this post i am going to write about how to inculcate habit of reading among your kids.

As we all know Interest in books cannot be generated overnight and reading is not one of the habits that all children will pick up on their own. Now a days it becomes very difficult to make your kid read a book because of technology where gadgets vie for their attention. So it is important to encourage reading among children. Following are some ways that might help you.

  • START EARLY :

You can start as early as 6 months where babies can sit on their laps and you can make them browse through the picture books. They can get easily attracted towards the colorful images.

  • READ YOURSELF

Remember, your child always copies your behavior. It is very difficult to convince your child if parents never pick up a book. So let your child see you reading. It can be at least a newspaper. You can read out a story everyday to your 2 year old kid and then slowly phase it out so that he can start reading.

  • TAKE THEM TO THE BOOKSTORE

Kids always find interesting going to toy stores. You can take them to book stores too. Some of book stores organize child friendly activities which can attract kids visits. You can visit story telling sessions with kids.

  • BUY BOOKS AND CHILDREN’S MAGAZINES

Find interesting topic of your kid and try to buy books on that topic. Magazines have colorful pictorial stories which can be useful for kids who just has started reading.

  • CREATE A READER FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT AT HOME

Minimize TV and gadget time allowed for your kids, let them have some reading time too.

  • HAVE HEALTHY DISCUSSIONS ABOUT BOOKS

Schools have library periods. Ask your children about it. Ask some easy questions about book. Share your childhood reading experiences with them. If you have saved your own books, pass them at appropriate age.

So, its never too late to begin.

Have a happy parenting.
